Some Delegations felt uncomfortable with the approach of the Russian Delegate with other delegates, who began to discuss and advertise their respective vaccines. So much that the Delegate of Thailand had to intervene and ask the Delegates to focus on the humanitarian topics in question.
Already at the press conference, when asked about hiding the truth over the deaths by the pandemic, the Russian Delegate said that all this “speculation” about the concealment of deaths are fake news, and reaffirmed that Sputnik V is effective against COVID-19.
Surprisingly, the giant powers – China and the US – remained almost silent during the three sessions. In addition, in the course of the third session, the Chinese Delegate stated that she would help all Southeast Asian countries that were experiencing difficulties in obtaining the COVID-19 vaccines. In a surprising move, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar ensured that it did not want any help from China due to recent conflicts.
Throughout the second session, the Delegate of the Republic of Norway suggested some points for debate, such as: “Encouraging Investments in Southeast Asian countries that are mostly affected by the Pandemic Crisis, in order to boost Economic Recovery from the COVID-19 Pandemic”, gaining support from the Russian and Philippine delegations. However, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines State Delegation disagreed and proposed another approach to the draft solution.
